Thinadhoo City, the capital of the Gaafu Dhaalu region in the Huvadhu Atoll of the Maldives, is known for its distinct cultural identity and unique local dialect of Dhivehi, which differs noticeably from the northern variations of the language.
The name Thinadhoo is believed to originate from Euphorbia hirta, a pantropical herb locally known as Thina Vina or Thina Weed—a plant traditionally valued for its medicinal properties and once commonly found growing across the island.
